He took me this place cost me $55 per night hotel. Amazed in first place, nice swimming pool, huge bed with shiny bath room. Then I thought, oh fucked... I can't afford this!? But it was the first day and I was sick, so I took it and stayed for two nights.
Next day, I was quite fine so I decided to walk around find some cheap hostel or somethings to do. I need some money, so I went to money exchange. I found on the street with really good rate, then I have changed some money there. At the shop, they count money slowly and clearly as I can count. “Here is your money sir, thank you come again” Done! I have totally fooled. They ripped me off nicely about $20. Well, shit happens. That was my educational fee for “don't get fucked, lesson 1”.
Then I was walking on a street. It is so amazing but annoying that I found in Bali is that the local people can speak Japanese soooo well, some of them can do better than me. “Hey brother, sunglasses? DVDs? Surfing? Da da da... I mention my name once to a man on a street. He called my name from like hundreds meters away “Heaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiy”. I wonder what? Then he run to me asked me again. Sunglasses? DVDs? Surfing? Agh, if its just 3~5 times a day is annoying, all days will be insanity... I wanted to get out of the town then I took this bike taxi asked him I want to go somewhere out. Then he took me to tourist beach where I could find parasailing, jet ski and turtle islands. I DID THAT... When I think about it now, ha ha, that was an another educational fee for, you know... One more thing that I felt shit about is the amount of rubbish in Bali. If you look around a bid out of tourist area you would be shocked.
Actually, I had a plan to do in Bali. It was scuba diving*)
Awsome, there is nothing but I have to say that the diving in Bali was the most beautiful water I have ever seen. It was wreck diving in Tulamben. Surprisingly there is a lot of rubbish floating on the surface of the water but in the water, there is a crystal clear ocean with full of colorful creature surround me. Breathtaking. When I went to deep down, I looked up the surface and there is this diffused reflection is penetrating down through me from indescribable ceil of glass of ocean. Well, I had to mention this first but anyway, when I went to this diving shop (technically its on street) the stuff ask me, do you have a license? So I said yes. Then we went out to the ocean. There was no need to show the license or question of when is the last experiences or any cautions before the diving. We just went in. I haven't dive for four years or even more I can't even remember. I forgotten everything about diving. Here it come the dozyness of Indonesian tour business, of course you can pay for good one but I chose cheap shit. But I'm ok and had a fun time. I went down 32m down with open water license if you know what I'm talking about.
While I was staying Bali, there was a festival called Nyepi day which is Balinese new years when all people in the island can not go out from home, use electricity and drink alcohol. Its illegal:0 On the eve, there was a local peoples in Balinese traditional dress marching on the street. The traffic on the town was crazy, cars are stopped for hours, bikers are trying to carry out the 100kg of a lump of metal. In the night, I went out with some Korean girls who I dived with to the ceremony in Sunor. I am not so sure about the name now but... There was thousands of people on street lined up to see this event. Most of the villages in Bali has own community from kids to olds to make this Balinese god called “ogo ogo” out of something like card board, news paper, clay and so on, size like 5m hight put on a bamboo base for 10 – 20 people to carry and able to run with. Some of them are quite creative, some are too fragile so broken on the events. But the energy of this events was clearly outstanding. In the night, when we went back to our hostel, all the stuffs (they are around 16 – 21 years old) in the hostel was having a whiskey and coke even though its illegal. Yep, fuck the law. But we couldn't use any light but candles. We had lots of shot and nuts. It was a sunny night with no light in whole island plus my hostel was under the construction there is some room with no ceil. We went up to the top of this dark building and saw the stars we never seen before. That was romance.
I stayed in Bali for 7 nights. That was too short. Found out that never book the plane ticket in advance... I missed Kechat dance, north of Bali and Gigi island.
